The NYJO ‘Minus One’ project has been specifically designed to keep band-based education at the forefront of our offering. Here you’ll find a selection of interactive tracks drawn from NYJO’s extensive library of recorded music.
Suitable for grades 6-8 (and grades 4-6 for the JUNIOR level), this new interactive experience provides a challenging but rewarding exercise for committed learners to use in their current practise sessions. Each instrumentalist that falls within NYJO’s standard line-up can now recreate playing in an ensemble setting from their own home, whenever they like.
No matter where you are, you’ll be able to simulate the feeling of joining a real-life NYJO rehearsal session and continue to develop all of the skills unique to playing in a band.
ABOUT THE FILES:
Backing tracks are provided as stems which are individual files for each instrument in the band. You can set these up in your own digital audio workstation (DAW) – adjust volumes, mute tracks and listen to single instruments. You have complete control.
Play alongs are files that have the whole band mixed together with one instrument removed – i.e. alto saxophone. These are also uploaded onto Soundcloud so you can access them easily anywhere you are via any device.
You will need to download the backing tracks and upload into the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) of your choice. You will then be able to mute your instrument and perfect your part over time. You can find a list of free DAW’s currently available here.
Our Suggestions for those unfamiliar with DAW’s is to familiarise yourself with either of these free offerings:
