Based in London, Clara Serra moved from Spain to pursue her singing career after successfully gaining a place on the jazz course at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2012. Born to a musical family, she started her journey on classical violin at the age of four, performing from a young age as a soloist and in both chamber and orchestral settings. Living in the North East of England from the ages of nine to fourteen she attended the Sage Gateshead’s Music School on a scholarship and was accepted into the National Children’s Orchestra at the age of 10 with whom she performed around the UK and Italy.
Jazz was always present in Clara’s life having a father who was a jazz musician and from a young age she was drawn to jazz and specially the big band sound. She pursued singing as a first study at the age of 14 when living in Barcelona. She trained vocally in Musical Theatre and Classical gaining the versatility which she applies to all the genres she loves including jazz, soul, funk and R&B.
A fully formed musician Clara is also a band leader, composer, arranger and vocal tutor. She has performed as a soloist and alongside groups in venues including the Barbican Hall, Spice of Life, The Vortex and The Crypt, singing regularly in the London scene. She enjoys many genres and styles of music and can be heard singing from 1920s trad jazz to 21st century groove music.
