Hailing from a family of musicians, it was seemingly inevitable that, from an early age, Steve would venture into the professional world of music.
After studying trumpet, piano, composition and orchestration at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and playing trumpet with NYJO in the 1980s, Steve has, since turning professional, performed, written and recorded with many international artists.
His distinctive and innovative orchestrations and compositions have seen Steve produce some outstanding and award winning specialist commissions. His composition Elements and Motion, written for the 79th Academy Awards with the Hollywood SFX Chorale, was Emmy-nominated, and the sensational Honda Choir won the Gold Lion award in the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
Steve was orchestrator and conductor for Robbie Williams’ memorable Live at The Albert Hall concert and his multi-platinum selling album Swing When You’re Winning. He has also worked as Music Director for BBC’s The Voice UK Series 1 and 2.
His film work includes writing and arranging the music for Baz Lurhmann’s Moulin Rouge and Romeo & Juliet, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Finding Nemo, Mona Lisa Smile, and 101 Dalmatians 2.
Steve also recently won a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, as the orchestrator and arranger for the highly acclaimed musical Beautiful: The Carole King Story, which opened in London in February 2015.
