July 3 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm
NYJO are thrilled to present a very special double-header for this years Deal Festival. Deal Music & Arts have been bringing the best in arts and culture to East Kent for nearly 40 years, and in that time they have welcomed many of the world’s greatest artists. From a single summer festival, DMA now exists as a year-round organisation that maintains that also maintains and supports a series of education programmes, always to the benefit of cultural life and the local economy of East Kent.
Part 1: The Printmakers Feat. NYJO
The Printmakers were born out the beautiful creative partnership between pianist/composer Nikki Iles and the inspirational vocalist, Norma Winstone. The ensemble’s evocative repertoire, played by some of the most brilliant musicians in UK jazz, ranges from original material by various members, compositions from Steve Swallow and Ralph Towner, dreamy Joni Mitchell reimagining’s, and the wonderfully sculpted works of visionary poet, Rupert Brooke. After many years of working with the music charity as a composer, arranger and educator, Nikki is now one of the eight-strong board of trustees for 2021 and beyond. Both Nikki and Norma will feature on NYJO’s latest album-release “She Said”, which celebrates women-in-jazz from across multiple generations – due for release late this year. For this special, one-off performance, The Printmakers impressive original line-up is being reimagined and reinterpreted by a unique collection of young jazz musicians from the NYJO family. The Band: Norma Winstone MBE (Vocals), Nikki Iles (Piano), Emma Rawicz (Sax), Matthew Holmes (Drums), Rosie Frater Taylor (Guitar), Myra Brownbridge (Bass)
Part 2: NYJO Jazz Exchange (JX)
