NYJO Jazz Jam with Andrea Vicari
May 19 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us for a new instalment of our fantastically successful NYJO Jazz Jam, with pianist and composer Andrea Vicari.
Following her education at Cardiff University and The Guildhall School of Music, Andrea was soon in demand as a “side-man”—working with bass guitar legend Dill Katz in a band that included the then-unknown guitarist Phil Robson. Soon after she formed her first important group with Julian Argüelles on saxophone & Stuart Hall, then of Django Bates’ “Human Chain”, on bass. She then went on to record her first commercially released CD with jazz warrior David-Jean Baptiste, and worked with GRP recording artist Phil Bent, Kathy Stobart’s all-women band Birds, great American saxophone innovator Eddie Harris, and US trumpet legend Art Farmer. In addition to releasing her own five albums, Andrea has contributed to ‘Round Trip’ and ‘East and West’ with Jazz Extempore, and ‘Charybdis’ with The Vortex Foundation Big Band.
These sessions are open to all under 18s—parents, passers-by and jazz fans are all welcome to stay and enjoy the music. The musicians will kick-start the session with a set at midday, then the floor will open to all those who want to jam (Piano and drums will be provided)
