Scott started playing with NYJO in the late 80s, when he was 16

Scott GarlandScott has been playing professionally since the age of 14 – his first jobbing gig was with a jazz-funk band called Hard Lines in the 1980s. He then attended rehearsals with NYJO, and started gigging with the band when he was 16. At 18 he went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, to study jazz performance.

On returning to the UK, he moved to London and started working with a variety of artistes and bands, including the Spice Girls, the Brand New Heavies, the Style Council, Shirley Bassey and Michael Ball, as well as doing session work and West End shows.

He has been a member of two award-winning bands – Sax Appeal and the Pete Cater Big Band – both on lead alto sax. He lives in Sussex and is teaching, lecturing, freelancing and running his own group – Straight To The Heart – a David Sanborn tribute band.
