NYJO represents UK arts at House of Commons

On Monday 14 September NYJO was one of only two performing organisations chosen to represent the wealth of talent in UK arts at a special event for new and returning MPs at the House of Commons.

Organised by Arts Council England, this was an opportunity to build relationships with members of parliament and to help the sector make the case for continued funding of the arts. Along with a segment from the RSC’s production of Matilda, NYJO performed Feeling Good and Zoe Rahman’s Red Squirrel. In addition to a speech by the Culture Secretary, John Whittingdale, singer Sarah Connolly and Arts Council Chief Executive Darren Henley made a passionate case for support for the arts to members – reminding all that UK arts are the envy of the world. We’re very pleased to help Arts Council make the case and to raise the profile of jazz within the debate.
