NYJO today announced a major new partnership with the Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation. The Foundation will support NYJO across a number of different areas, focusing on the NYJO Academy Jazz Ensemble (NYJO’s junior training band, led by trumpeter Gemma Buckenham), the provision of bursaries for NYJO Academy attendees from disadvantaged backgrounds, and also sponsorship of NYJO’s upcoming collaboration with the Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra on 17 and 18 September.
Nigel Tully, Executive Chair of NYJO said:
‘We are very proud that the Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation has chosen to support NYJO, the pre-eminent jazz educator in the UK. With this grant, the Foundation has underlined its strong commitment to developing the next generation of UK jazz musicians; how inspiring for the young musicians in the NYJO Academy Jazz Ensemble that their band is underpinned by Europe’s greatest jazz club!’
Simon Cooke, Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation Trustee said:
‘Ronnie Scott’s Club has a long history with NYJO, we host concerts by them each year and have done for decades. We believe they do great work producing musicians and in the name of jazz education, so it’s a major pleasure that through our charitable wing, ‘The Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation’, we are able to support some of their projects that encourage the participation of very young budding jazz musicians.’
