Victoria Hart – Santa Baby
“12 years ago I set up this recording of Victoria Hart singing with the Household Division Band in Wellington Barracks, as I looked after the finances of the Coldstream Guards Band; I played piano for Victoria’s band for a few years. The band behaved impeccably and you can see they enjoyed this Christmas present.”
Luther Vandross – Every Year, Every Christmas
“This song reminds me of a dear old close family friend of my fathers and mine (as a child) who came to the UK from East Germany following the second world war. Her Polish husband served in the war and never returned. There was never anyone else for her. She died on Christmas day. It reminds me of how people have made sacrifices so we can be free.”
The Crystals – Santa Claus is Coming to Town
“I’ve been a fan of the Wall of Sound since the 60’s and “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” and I should think my band The Dark Blues played The Crystals’ “Da Doo Ron Ron” on every gig for a good 20 years (always with an a capella audience-participation chorus in the middle). The best Crystals track from the Phil Spector Christmas album (which I’ve owned since 1972) was the obvious choice. Plus why shouldn’t I agree with The Boss, who recorded his own live tribute version a few years later.”
Oh go on then, let’s end this thing by playing them both! It’s Christmas after all.
You made it! Well done! Feeling pretty festive now right? Of course you are. You’ve quite literally covered the full Christmas-song experience here (well, enough for one year at least).
As always, if you want to get it touch to let us know what we’ve missed simply drop us a message here. Merry Christmas!
