The National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) and the Worshipful Company of Musicians today announce a new partnership to support talented young jazz musicians at the start of their professional careers. The Musicians’ Company will sponsor NYJO’s flagship performing orchestra with an award of £3000 per year for three years enabling the continued development of excellent performing and workshop opportunities in the UK and abroad for its 23 members.
The two organisations share mutual aims in supporting the next generation of jazz talent in the UK and in addition to the financial support will work together to better make the case in support of jazz and music education.
Nigel Tully, Executive Chair of NYJO said:
“This is wonderful news for NYJO and recognition of a friendship with the Musicians’ Company which goes back over twenty years. There is no doubt that NYJO’s musicians are among the most accomplished and destined for professional success of any young serious British musicians. The Musicians’ Company can be proud of the help that it gives to them, and they are proud to be supported by the Company.”
Leslie East, Chairman of the Musicians’ Company Jazz Committee commented:
“We at the Company are of course delighted this financial support has been agreed. The opportunity to associate the Musicians’ Company with a flagship UK organisation such as NYJO is too good to pass over. We look forward hugely to working together over the next three years.”
