Two years on from NYJO’s storming performance at the BBC Proms, this season’s series of concerts included a plethora of ex-NYJO members. The Prom on 8 August looked back to the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s with James Pearson and Grant Windsor recreating the two great bands of Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Hosted by NYJO friend and frequent guest artist Clare Teal along with singer Gregory Porter , the night culminated in a roof-raising battle between the two bands. It was fantastic to see that well over half of the personnel across the two bands were ex-NYJO members including bandleader James Pearson and NYJO Honorary Vice President trumpeter Guy Barker. We wish them continued success in their careers!
The BBC4 TV programme of the concert is available on BBC iPlayer until 24 August here.
