Get your applications in to join the NYJO Academy Big Band now! This will be the first group based out of our brand-new, permanent home, Woolwich Works.

Led by renowned jazz drummer and educator Sebastiaan de Krom, the NYJO Academy Big Band (NABB) explores a rich variety of repertoire that forms the backbone of big band style, from Count Basie through to Maria Schneider. The band will give you the opportunity to hone your soloing, sense of groove, ensemble accuracy and sight reading skills!

We’re open to all standard big band instruments: alto, tenor and baritone saxes (available to borrow), trumpets, trombones, guitar, piano, bass and drums. As well as working with Seb, periodical special guests will enhance your experience and our new rehearsal base at Woolwich Works will allow you to connect with a vibrant, young, creative community.

How To Apply

To apply, make a short video (3 min max) of yourself performing in a context that you feel highlights you best and email it directly to the LDN Academy team below. In order to confirm your application details, you will also need to fill out a short form.

If selected for the next round, live auditions will be held at Woolwich Works on Saturday, 4 September. You should be ready to play one prepared piece and an unprepared quick study piece. A rhythm section will be available to accompany you. If you prefer to play with a backing track, you need to bring your own equipment (please note: limited amplification will be available).
