The Board of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra is delighted to announce that – after a rigorous selection process – Mark Armstrong (right) has been appointed Artistic & Music Director of NYJO for the next 5 years.
This is a tribute to the inspiring leadership which Mark has already shown since becoming NYJO’s MD two years ago, and a testament to the breadth of his talents as music director, band leader, and educator. Mark: Congratulations !
The field of candidates for this important post was particularly strong and, whilst only one Principal MD can be appointed, the other short-listed candidates offered extremely valuable ideas. As a national and inclusive organisation, NYJO fully intends to develop these relationships alongside a range of creative partnerships with guest MDs.
The Board of NYJO wishes to thank all the candidates for their interest – and all the members of the UK jazz community who helped and advised in this vital stage of its evolution as a national arts institution.
