Inspired by the likes of Wynton Kelly and Bud Powell, he is one of the finest pianists this country has ever produced. He was voted runner-up in the 1999 Sun Alliance Musician of the Year awards. He has performed at Ronnie Scott’s and with Christian Brewer Quartet, the Matt Wates Sextet, the Gareth Lockrane Septet and toured with pop band Incognito.
In January 2009, on a visit to New York, Leon recorded nine exciting compositions at the legendary Systems Two studios, paying homage to some of his all-time jazz piano favourites from both the US and UK, including Victor Feldman, Bobby Timmons, and even included a reworking of a classic Dudley Moore composition.
Appearing on Cookin’ in Brooklyn was his exciting working trio of Michael Janisch and Steve Brown, and special guests Alex Garnett and one of the most renowned alto saxophonists of the last 30 years, Vincent Herring.
