Joe first began playing piano at the young age of 6, pursuing both jazz and classical to a high standard. Meanwhile, he developed an interest in composition and arrangement, and it was around this time that he knew he wanted to pursue a musical life and career, and so decided to audition for Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester for sixth form. Here, Joe developed his jazz playing, as well as his classical, meeting lots of other like-minded musicians who he could interact with. He formed his own quartet, and has played at various venues such as Wakefield Jazz Club, Middleton Arena and Wigan Jazz Festival. He has studied with names such as Richard Iles, Steve Waterman, Jason Rebello, Niki Iles and Dennis Rollins.
Now, Joe is studying Jazz Piano at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and is in his second year studying with Malcolm Edmonstone, Barry Green and Gareth Williams. Since moving to London he has created his own quintet, worked on new compositions and arrangements and recording lots of his new projects. He has played at venues such as Barbican Concert Hall and Milton Court Concert Hall with names such as Elliot Mason and Vincent Gardener. Now the piano chair in NYJO, he hopes to continue developing his career in London.
