Jazz stars of today meet jazz stars of tomorrow – NYJO & Jazz at Lincoln Center

As part of our partnership with Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning and Jazz at Lincoln Center we’ve been privileged to host musicians from Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra recently who gave workshops for NYJO as well as all NYJO Academy ensembles at our Southwark home.

This work culminated in a concert at London’s Barbican Centre on 19 February 2016 which saw NYJO, the NYJO Academy Big Band, MDs Mark Armstrong and Seb de Krom and members of the NYJO Academy Vocal Class performing with Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra trombonists Vincent Gardner & Elliot Mason, tenor saxophonist Walter Blanding and trumpeter Marcus Printup showing the Next Generation of Jazz! We also welcomed the Young Jazz East Band as well as receiving great advice and encouragement from the man himself – Wynton Marsalis.

It was a wonderful experience for all – as the photos here demonstrate! We look forward to working together in the future.
