To his surprise, ex-NYJO lead alto saxophonist Ed Barker’s debut album has charted in the U.S.
This week, Ed’s hit single When You Smile, was played 1499 times around the US on 45 stations and reached number 15 on the AC Main Top40 Chart.
The song, featuring the BBC Strictly Come Dancing singer, Lance Ellington, reached 34 on the Mainstream Top 40 and jumped 8 points on the Mediabase AC Chart to 71 (it has moved up 20 places in two weeks).
Ed was overjoyed when he heard the news:
I am so glad the American public is taking to the song in such a big way – it’s so good to hear. It’s funny because when you write, play and produce a song you never really know for sure how it’s going to be received. You just try your best to get on paper or take down what’s going on in your head.
The reception the song has got has shocked me but it’s one of the most rewarding feelings of my life. Thank you, everyone, for all your support!
Catch Ed with full live band at Pizza Express, Dean Street on 4th and 5th June
