A nonet consisting of members from NYJO and German National Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) performed at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Berlin recently, as part of an event hosted by the British Ambassador to Germany (and life-long jazz fan) H.E. Sir Sebastian Wood KCMG.
The nonet’s performance was supported by Deutsche Bank, sponsors of Three Nations Under One Groove – NYJO’s joint project with the BuJazzO and Dutch NJJO, which will tour the UK starting on March 29th at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall. Full details here
“The NYJO/BuJazzO concert was a joyful occasion. With brilliant ensemble, storming solos, all after just a couple of hours’ rehearsal, it was also a powerful symbol of UK-German youth partnership. My thanks and congratulations to these wonderful young musicians.”
Sir Sebastian Wood KCMG, HM Ambassador to Germany.
The NYJO musicians included Sam Glaser on alto, David Healey on tenor and Tom Ridout on baritone, with Adam Chinery on guitar and Ellie Bignall on vocals. The ensemble was led by NYJO’s Artistic Director, Mark Armstrong, and performed a programme of classics including Feeling Good, Laura and That Old Black Magic.
The following day, NYJO and BuJazzO musicians gave a workshop at Gymnasium Bertha von Suttner school in Berlin, further underlining the value of jazz as a universal musical language.
