On Tuesday 2nd June we will be observing Black Out Tuesday.
#TheShowMustBePaused is an initiative created by Atlantic Records exec Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang, as a call to action that also includes a collection of Anti-Racism Resources.
In their own words, it is “in response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless other Black citizens at the hands of the police.” You can read their full message here.
In the meantime, the organisation recommends:
“If you have been impacted by the recent events, take a break – there is a lot going on and sometimes we all just need a minute. Take that minute.“
We’ll also be educating ourselves on how to be better allies and support those in our own communities. Here’s a useful list of resources for white people and parents to deepen their anti-racism work, and a further list of resources from SHESAID.SO.
While this is only a small step, we will use this time to come together and discuss our own efforts as a music charity.
We have the opportunity to educate and support the next generation. We have a responsibility to lead by example.
∙ Fight for Breonna Taylor HERE.
∙ Help the family of Ahmaud Arbery HERE.
