Alexandra Ridout – Trumpet

Alexandra has been playing the trumpet since she was nine (gaining grade 8 distinction aged 13 and an LTCL diploma aged 16) A year later she also gained a place on the Junior Jazz course at The Royal Academy of Music. Alex has successfully auditioned for the National Youth Jazz Collective Summer School for the last five years and in summer 2015 (aged 16) was one of two UK 16-19 year-olds chosen to attend the prestigious Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony in Stockton, California. Alex now attends The Purcell School on a scholarship for her sixth form studies as joint first study classical trumpet and jazz trumpet.

Since winning the BBC Young Musician 2016 Jazz Award Alexandra has been interviewed on ‘In tune’ on Radio 3, interviewed on ‘Jazz Now’ on Radio 3 and hosted the ‘True Brit’ show on Jazz FM. Some of Alexandra’s recent performance highlights include performing with  Dave Holland and the NYJC flagship band at the Houses of Commons, performing at the Pizza Express Soho with the RAM Junior jazz, performing with the Clark Tracey Quintet, performing with the RAM trumpets for the Kenny Wheeler Tribute at the Cadogan Hall, performing as a main act in the Manchester Jazz festival 2016 with her own quintet ‘The Alexandra Ridout Quintet’, and performing at the 606 with a family band ‘The Ridouts’.

As a classical trumpeter, Alexandra’s highlights include being a featured performer in an Alan Vizzutti masterclass, performing in the QEH foyer and other venues with the Junior Academy Brass, performing Handel’s Messiah at St Martin in the Fields with the Brandenburg Sinfonia, and performing with the Purcell School Orchestra at the QEH (principle trumpet).

In addition to leading her own band ‘The Alexandra Ridout Quintet’, Alexandra is a member of ‘The Ridouts’. She is also a member of Clark Tracey’s ‘Tribute to Stan Tracey’s Hexad’ band  and  The Barford/Stoneman organ quintet.
