The WCM is one of the great Guilds of the City of London, and this year’s Midsummer Banquet, held in the Guildhall itself, was a truly glittering occasion.
NYJO 2 opened the evening with a Fanfare, specially composed for the banquet by the band’s conductor Paul Eshelby, after which the choir of St Paul’s Cathedral sang the Grace. When the dinner and speeches were over, NYJO2 royally entertained the Worshipful Company and its guests with a rousing selection from its big band repertoire.
For a brief taste of the occasion, check out the clip of Robert Lewin Scholarship winner Asha Parkinson’s solo in the video section.
Thanks for making the band’s evening such a success must go Paul who, ably assisted by Brian Hoare, put an immense amount of effort into ensuring that everything went perfectly. Our thanks too to the band members’ parents, relatives and guardians for all their help in ensuring the musicians, and their instruments, reached the venue on time and in good order – without such dedication and assistance, NYJO2 would be unable to function nearly as effectively as it does.
