The first ever NYJO rehearsal took place on a Sunday afternoon at the Marquee Club on 10th of October 1965. Forty-five years later NYJO celebrates its anniversary at the 100 Club with current and past members of the band.
It is hard to believe that Bill Ashton, OBE, founder Musical Director and Life President has been on the bandstand for so many years, his enthusiasm for NYJO is undiminished. Together with Mark Armstrong, current Musical Director of NYJO and Paul Eshelby, Musical Director of NYJO2, Bill will lead a range of NYJO bands past and present that have helped make NYJO’s reputation what it is today.
The concert commences at 4pm, 10 October 2010 at the 100 Club and the programme runs as follows:
4.00pm Doors open
4.30-5.15 NYJO2 – NYJO’s current training band.
5.30-6.30 NYJO Originals – alumni from NYJO’s first 10 years.
6.45-8.00 NYJO1 – NYJO’s touring band at large, expect the best of the country’s young jazz musicians (all under 26 years old).
