Riley was born in London but he grew up in County Galway in Ireland. He began playing classical music on clarinet and piano at a young age but only realised his vocation when he picked up the tenor saxophone at the age of fifteen and discovered jazz.
Chris studied for a performance degree in the trombone at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and has been attending NYJO rehearsals since August 2006 – he came into the main band through the ranks of NYJO2 .
In addition to playing in NYJO, Jim works with alumnus Callum Au’s Big Band as well as the organ quintet Organism.
A native Londoner, Anna studied at RCM with Sue Dent and John Ryan. She also studied improvisation with Jim Rattigan, supported by the Peter Hinkley Trust.
He played lead trumpet with NYJO between 2012 and 2014 and took part in the band’s BBC Proms Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2012.
