One Big Encore for Bill Ashton!

The London Gazette has today announced that, in the Queen’s birthday honours, William Michael Allingham Ashton MBE, Life President of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, has been awarded an OBE for Services to Music.
The entire Board of NYJO, together with all the Associates, would like to offer Bill their most sincere and heartfelt congratulations!
Fittingly, the actual investiture later this year will take place around the time of the celebration of NYJO’s 45th anniversary – what better way to mark Bill’s lifetime commitment to NYJO, his achievement and lasting legacy?

NYJO was one of the most important jobs I had in that twenty years of my career: Because of the people, because of the dedication, because of the lessons of life you gave me in those days. Many Congratulatinos.
Having enjoyed many happy hours, listening to “THE Band”, could ou perhaps get aropund to visiting Lincoln once again. We are a bit starved of your quality of music, up here in the sticks. If not here, then could please tell me how close you are getting to the Lincoln area. Thank you, and especially to Bill Ashton, who has nurtured NYJO along the way, so, Bill, for ALL your hard work, and the pleasure you have enabled us jazz lovers to enjoy, a heartfelt THANKYOU.
