Lauren Derwent
Lauren is a prolific song writer, vocalist, pianist and percussionist.
Lauren held the vocal and percussion chair with NYJO from 2003-2005, and in 2009 she signed an exclusive song writer's agreement with Toolroom Publishing. Her compositions are catchy and thought provoking, and her lyrics address character development, morals, and raise social issues.
She also enjoys presenting and acting, and has worked as an assistant producer and script writer. Credits include... IC Kids television presenter, voice over artist for children's television and radio, supporting artist for music videos and television advertisements (incl. 'I love it when you call' by The Feeling & 'Olay' advertisement with Thandie Newton)
Musical success so far has included radio airplay on BBC Essex and various other local and international stations (UK, US, Denmark, Germany, Japan & australia), and Lauren's song "My Child" was chosen by Johnson & Johnson as the official song in their charity campaign for "Safe Kids Worldwide", helping to prevent accidental childhood death and injury. She performed "My Child" on Lauren Booth's (Tony Blair's sister-in-law) TV show, "Remember the Children of Palestine", and accompanied singer Najam Sheraz (a household name in Pakistan) on his world peace anthem, "Only Love".
Her co-write 'Decisions' has sparked a lot of interest, being used on Discovery Channel and channel Four television, and it was in the top 10 of the 'Music Maker' magazine's song writing competition.
She has performed in the UK, US, and Pakistan, and TV appearances include MTV, Indus TV, GeoTV and PTV.
Lauren feels that music can really make a difference, and her aim is to be a positive role model for the youth of today, using music as a medium to make people think, and feel. She has been likened to a sophisticated Lily Allen.
